Description:
For more than nine decades the Hotel Eden au Lac has been welcoming its guests at Utoquai 45. The first years were turbulent, followed by a time of steady upswing and the constant development from a small hotel to a luxury five-star-house. This long tradition combined with the philosophy of a strict adherence to first-class-standards and reasonable economic handling furthered hotels present prominent position, one of the leading houses in town. For more than 50 years there is an exquisite Hors doeuvre chaud on the famous menu card of the Eden - the culinary highlight and pride of the head cook. Well-known musicians, artists and authors spent some time here and the whole VIP-list reads like of a calendar of aristocracy. But only one visitor has left such incomparable traces like him, Prince Aga Khan III. (1877 - 1957). Aga Khan, the third, stayed during World War II with his family at the Hotel Eden au Lac. In the restaurant he ordered most of the time a variety of small choices of delicious food. In this way, he motivated the kitchen crew for the recreation of opulent menus, but in much smaller portions. The prince was thus one of the inventors of the delightful degustation menu - a name that did not appear on the regular menu cards until decades later. The Hotel Eden, however, decided to call the delicacy simply Hors doeuvre chaud - a charming understatement. For Aperitif, high-tee or night-cup- the bar is the place to meet, to chat or simply to relax. Barman Angelo Filliger spoils his guests with cocktails and drinks out of his nearly unlimited choice.
